SkinnyPop x Elf Movie Partnership
Overview
Is it really Christmas without Elf? SkinnyPop partnered with Warner Bros. on a limited-time holiday flavor, bringing together an iconic movie and a brand built around feel-good snacking.
I was initially assigned to prepare the supplied artwork for production, but technical issues prevented the packaging design from moving forward as provided. Since the packaging had already been approved by Warner Bros., I developed multiple options to resolve the issues while preserving the licensed artwork. The display designs also required Warner Bros.’ approval and further artwork adjustments to meet printing requirements. I worked through these changes and received approval to move forward.
Challenges & Problem Solving
1. Complex Packaging Artwork
The supplied artwork presented file-handling and print-production challenges. I explored options and simplified a complex visual effect to create a more practical solution for print.
2. Fine-Line Logo Details
Delicate details in the Elf logo exceeded the capabilities of the intended printing process. I developed an alternative treatment that maintained the design’s visual character while accommodating production limitations.
3. Display Artwork & Color Limitations
The two retail displays required Warner Bros.’ approval, and the printing process limited the number of colors available. I refined the artwork to reduce the color count while maintaining a cohesive design, then secured approval for the display elements.
